When NC State hired Will Wade, everyone understood that things were probably going to change in the Triangle. And while no one has played a game yet, things do seem to be changing. First State got Ven-Allen
Lubin to transfer from UNC to State, which did not go over well in Chapel Hill if you missed it. Someone from UNC – we forget who, but a player – referred to the UNC-State rivalry like State was y0ur little brother.
Well, little brother just took another player from UNC as Hillsborough native Cole Cloer chose NC State over UNC and others this weekend.
Depending on who you listen to, Cloer is a 4 or 5 star, Top 25 or Top 30 recruit, but it’s all subjective crap, really. The bottom line is that he can play and will be a factor for State and in particular he can shoot and shooters are always helpful.
Is State in position to pass UNC in the local heirarchy? Possibly, but UNC may have enough talent to hold State off for now.
That doesn’t change the fact that State may be dramatically better than they have been for a long time, or at least will have better talent.
Like a lot of people, we are uncertain about Wade’s character, but there’s no question he can coach and, for our money, is probably a better game coach than UNC’s Hubert Davis.
He’s certainly getting players, so things will get interesting in the Triangle this season and beyond.
