The Penguins are still trying to figure themselves out as an NHL team in 2026.
While the team is probably more than aware they can’t keep riding the Sid and Geno train forever, they seem determined to get at least one last major spot of glory with one major push. To that end, Malkin and Nick Robertson are currently leading the charge in goals with 6 apiece, and Erik Karlsson appears to be returning slightly to who he was in the distant past with 16 points in 14 games, Tommy Novak appears to be a major force
in pointsgetting, and they even found both a Buzz Flibbit and a Mark Donk in Declan Carlile and Kaedan Korczak helping to push the pace of the game from the back end…but they are not especially lucky with their shooting outside of their top four forwards, and further they are kind of hoping Arturs Silovs stays healthy for the rest of the season, because every single time they’ve trotted out Sergei Murashov in net he has lost, and gruesomely.
Naturally, the Boston Bruins, who have feasted on flawed teams all year, are in a position to have a good night if they play their efforts right.
A particular pain point the Bruins can call on to take advantage of the Penguins tonight is their penalty kill, which is giving up a ton of shots right now in spite of it’s success, and finally getting that particular nut to crack could be a major boon for the B’s, as there is far more opportunity for Boston to make Pittsburgh pay for any mistake.
Further, they’re starting to get some good streaks going; both with Elias Lindholm and Jimmy Hagens both rocking 5 points in 5 games, Morgan Geekie on a two game goal streak, and of course Pasta alternating between assist nights and goal nights. The Bruins will have their chances to keep said streaks going, they just need to cash in on the chances they are handed by potential Pittsburgh lapses in discipline, and try attacking the high slot; an otherwise odd crack in their armor.
And for the love of god, support your net-front. The Penguins absolutely love being close enough to smell your goalie’s lunch on his breath when they shoot, and so these lapses in coverage that have been popping up here and there have got to stop tonight, or it will be a very, very long game.
Will the Bruins get their third win in a row? The only way to know for sure is to find out tonight!
