Week 2 of the NFL season concluded with 12 Maryland football alumni seeing the field.
Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs recorded his best game with the team against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. Diggs had two touchdowns, five catches and 47 yards on six targets.
Diggs’ first score came on a redzone four-yard flat route from quarterback Jayden Daniels. His second score was a tight double coverage catch while falling on the endzone sideline in the fourth quarter.
His two scores brought him
to 77 career touchdowns. He is tied with Joey Galloway for 38th all-time on the receiving touchdowns list. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native is now four scores away from the top 35, where he would tie Oakland Raiders great Art Powell and Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr. at 81.
While he gets settled in Washington, Diggs and the team will likely have to navigate the foreseeable future without Daniels. The franchise quarterback suffered a dislocated left elbow just before halftime. There are no fractures, but he is expected to miss time. Daniels missed roughly a month in 2025 with the same elbow issue.
The Commanders, now 0-2, will rely on a veteran group that includes Diggs to help the team not fall too far behind. Through two weeks, the 32-year-old leads the offense in catches, yards and touchdowns.
Washington will host the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at 1 p.m. in its home opener.
