After giving up two goals on set pieces last weekend against SC Freiburg, Arsenal’s strong ability in the area has Bayern Munich concerned.
“The truth is that we haven’t showed our usual strength from set
pieces. I know this from my playing days – it doesn’t mean you’re not good in this phase of the game. But it does mean you have to get better at it. We’ve analyzed that and worked on it. But even the best teams can have problems against Arsenal in that area. But I don’t want to just think about defense. We can also score goals. We have to try that and we can do it. We want to be a very strong team at set pieces – not just in attack, but in defense, too,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Even striker Harry Kane knows Bayern Munich must deal with the threat.
“Of, course I follow the Premier League. Arsenal have done well so far in that department. We’ve prepared for Arsenal as usual. The best thing will be to not give them any set pieces, to control the game — and we need to defend better than we have recently when we do concede set pieces,” Kane said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
With all of the hype surrounding this topic, it seems almost inevitable that Bayern Munich gives one up. Can the Bavarians buck the odds?
