Good morning, baseball fans!
Over the weekend, I asked the McCovey Chronicles community to weigh in and give some shout outs to their fellow community members.
You all absolutely delivered en masse, and I’d like to share some of the responses here. There was no way I could include everything from the thread, as we have a ton of incredible members of the community, and a lot of people opted for lists. I highly recommend checking out the entire thread for some much needed dopamine and a trip down memory
lane.
But I wanted to go ahead and showcase some of the responses that included the reason for their shout outs. These are in no particular order.

Let me add some more for why she’s an All Star: Along with being one of the longer of longtime community members here, GitBTMLB is also a librarian. We’re living through a time where the federal government is doing awful, awful things (along with several state governments, and probably many local governments), but libraries are and always will be one of the greatest (and most criminally underrated) public goods. You can access almost any book, any piece of media, just a vast reservoir of knowledge, in a space purposefully designed for quiet study–and it’s completely free?!?! Plus all the community programs offered by libraries–for instance, the LA public library system has a program where you can get tickets to a bunch of museums/cultural spaces for free–plus a completely free streaming platform (Kanopy) where you can access a selection of movies that’s far, far better than any other streaming service.
And all of that is powered by people who I have found to be the most thoughtful, kind, considerate, and sharing of people. These are people who want you to learn and thrive. So it only makes sense that GitBTMLB is one of them!

Slapsy. In what ever reiteration he is in now. His baseball knowledge is wide and deep, his commitment to the Giants is full throttle, he pushes us all to really think about what we mean we praise/condemn/mock. He makes us do the work. If you disagree with Slapsy, check your numbers. If he disagrees with you, check your numbers. Google it. Google is free, you know. One of the longest running and most prolific members, he is not always easy, but he always honest.
Bgunn, who is the poster I most want to go to dinner with, most want to go to a game with, is also the one who has the most insight into the politics of Giants baseball. Something we all claim to know, but he is willing to give credit where due. And he is funny.

dangerismycat, in addition to having one of the best usernames, wins the award for poster I’d most like to have a beer with due to his friendly and upbeat nature and excellent taste in music, books, and movies. he also likes my posts all the time and is therefore obviously a standup guy.
ja.lxLl always posts with a combination of humor and insight, and wins the award for the amount of times I’ve loved a post but didn’t see who posted it, only to look up and see that it’s him
