The Mariners and Tigers meet up in a winner-take-all Game 5 clash. The likely Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal takes the mound for the Tigers, again, while the Mariners will counterpunch with George Kirby to start, but Dan Wilson indicated all his starters would be available in a do-or-die scenario.
Lineups:
Mitch Garver gets the start over Dominic Canzone against the lefty Skubal.
The Tigers are sticking with the lineup they’ve used for the majority
of the series. Kerry Carpenter, George Kirby’s personal sleep paralysis demon, remains in the leadoff spot.
Pitching Matchup:
You already know this. George Kirby vs. the presumptive Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.
Dan Wilson did say this is an “all hands on deck” situation, though. Every Seattle starter except Kirby and Castillo were out in the bullpen throwing pregame. (Yes, including Bryan Woo, who did a 30-ish pitch bullpen at moderate intensity before ramping up the intensity for his last several throws.)
