Happy Monday, everyone. It was a good weekend on the diamonds, as the baseball team took two of three from Ole Miss to land the 4-seed in this week’s SEC Tournament. Alabama will play on Thursday against whoever emerges from a threesome of Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Florida.
Meanwhile, the top ranked softball team laid waste to its regional opponents.
Both Briski and Moten carried perfect games into at least the fifth inning in their respective starts. Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy has been quick
to credit pitching coach Lance McMahon all season long, and it is well deserved as the Crimson Tide put together another excellent pitching plan to open the NCAA tournament.
Alabama’s pitchers only gave up six hits over three games with 15 strikeouts and just three total walks. The opponents only had 10 official plate appearances with a runner in scoring position across 19 innings of action.
Elite pitching wins championships, and Alabama continues to prove that it has the pitching to win a national championship
Only a best-of-three with LSU stands between the Tide and the Women’s College World Series.
It’s list season where football is concerned, and Nick Kelly opined on the most likely Alabama players to reach All-American status. Ryan Coleman-Williams is one of his picks.
He has All-American talent. It’s up to the junior receiver from Saraland to realize it in 20If Coleman-Williams can play at an All-America level, that’s going to get him accolades but also elevate the offense and become a top weapon for whoever plays quarterback.
If we are talking most likely, give me either Zabien Brown or Bray Hubbard.
Matt Stahl notes that Alabama is among the most donation-dependent football programs in the SEC.
Alabama football took in one of the SEC’s highest football donation amounts during the 2025 fiscal year. According to financial reports for the league’s 15 public schools, submitted to the NCAA and obtained by AL.com through a series of open records requests, the Crimson Tide is also one of the most reliant programs on contributions.
$53.6 million of Alabama’s $147.7 million in football-specific revenue during FY 2025, which ran from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, came from contributions. That meant donations made up 36.3% of the Tide’s football revenue, which ranked second among the SEC’s public schools, not counting Vanderbilt, which is not subject to open records laws as a private school.
Brad Crawford of CBS has Alabama 10th on his list of “most complete rosters.”
Freshmen signees Xavier Griffin (EDGE), EJ Crowell (running back) and Jorden Edmonds (cornerback) are future difference-makers, but this season’s calling card for a program itching for a return trip to the CFP starts in the secondary with several former five-stars leading the depth chart. Zabien Brown at cornerback is a projected 2027 first-rounder with senior safeties Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb not far behind.
Kalen DeBoer’s quarterback room is green in terms of experience, but the talent is undeniable with Austin Mack and 2025 five-star option Keelon Russell continuing to battle it out. At his best, Ryan Coleman-Williams is a gamebreaker at wideout. Alabama needs big plays from him this season to help keep defenses honest and get an inconsistent ground game going with Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley and AK Dear.
After watching a pair of expected starters along the defensive front transfer to Ohio State, Alabama appears to have found suitable replacements at both spots with Thompkins and Green from Power Four programs. The Crimson Tide edged out Texas A&M, Michigan and Oklahoma here for the No. 10 spot.
Last, the Steelers seem quite pleased with their Germie Bernard choice.
“It’s a lot,” Bernard said at rookie minicamp about the amount of information being presented by Pittsburgh. “But it’s nothing that I can’t handle. You just got to prepare. That’s it. …
“When you first come into offense, you want to learn everything. You want to be able to be versatile so you can have the most opportunities whenever that time comes, so that’s something that I’m working on is being able to know the ins and outs of the offense and all the receiver positions so I can put myself in the best position to succeed.”
Versatility is a key word for the Steelers when it comes to Bernard.
“Football comes easy to him,” Pittsburgh coach Mike McCarthy said after seeing Bernard at rookie minicamp. “His understanding is very high. Doesn’t blink. I love his demeanor. You could see why his versatility in college, you know, definitely carries over, so I think he’s been an excellent fit for us.”
That’s about it for today. Have a great week.
Roll Tide.
