Well, that’s not good.
Wednesday night brought about some unwelcome news regarding the Tennessee Volunteers’ offensive line. The big news is that starting guard Wendell Moe, Jr. is out for the rest of the season, per VolQuest.
Moe, Jr., a fifth-year senior, transferred to Tennessee after the 2024 season and has been a starter the last two years. He went down with a lower body injury on the first drive against Texas and had to leave the field with assistance. In his stead, Tennessee went with Sham Uramov
at left guard and Donovan Haslam at right guard. They did not play well, to put it mildly.
Now, Tennessee is going to have to figure out the right combination to fill in for Moe’s absence the rest of the season, and that could be a real challenge. That challenge is exacerbated by the fact that Uramov showed up for Tennessee on Wednesday night’s initial availability report, which listed him as questionable. That’s not great.
If Uramov is out, you might see Tennessee get really sneaky and perhaps go with Pendleton at guard and Nic Moore at center. Maybe. Who knows for sure. Hopefully Uramov plays and we don’t have to find out.
In any event, it’s tough to see a starter lost, and it’s especially tough when said starter was one of the best players on a group that just got exposed last weekend and needs a lift.
