Good morning, baseball fans!
We are quickly approaching the end of the season for the San Francisco Giants. Which means it’s almost time for the Willie Mac Award Ceremony!
Each season, Giants players, staff,
and fans vote on who they think best represents the spirit of Willie McCovey, with winners being recognized for their inspirational contributions to both the team and the community.
Past winners include a who’s-who of Forever Giants, a few examples would be Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Brandon Crawford, Hunter Pence, and the reigning winner Matt Chapman.
These things are not strictly easy to predict, but it’s been a while since a pitcher has gotten the honors, and Logan Webb has not won the award yet, so it’s possible this could be his year. It could just as easily be Robbie Ray, too. A lot of what goes into the voting by the players are things that we don’t necessarily get to see.
But if I were a betting person, I would probably put my money on Webb. He has an aura akin to that of Madison Bumgarner in the sense that he has grown into the role of being a steady, reliable leader and veteran presence. He also contributes to the Giants Community Fund, as well as his work in raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl, and his advocacy for mental health awareness and support.
Pretty solid pick, in my opinion.
Who is your pick for the Willie Mac Award?
