Today’s game features two starting pitchers who should be well-rested, because both have missed most of the season with injuries.
Martín Pérez has been lights-out in three starts since coming off four months on the IL for a flexor strain, most recently tossing seven innings of one-hit ball on Tuesday against the Royals (the game where the bullpen blew a 4-0 lead and started the White Sox on their current five-game losing streak). He’ll be facing 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil, whose 2025 season
didn’t begin until August because of a lat strain.
Gil has had five starts this month as the Yankees began stretching him out. The righty’s last outing was five innings of one-run ball against the Nationals, part of three straight games allowing a single run. Gil’s big problem is control, with 17 walks in 24 innings, so patience from Chicago batters will be a virtue. The problem is patience is not a virtue the Sox have — they faced a starter with a history of control problems yesterday and managed only one walk in 11 innings against Cam Schlittler and four relievers.
Gil will face a Sox lineup that has Michael A. Taylor in center for the injured Luis Robert Jr., and Will Robertson in left as Andrew Benintendi has a day off despite batting lefty and being on a seven-game hitting streak.

Because Pérez is a southpaw, Paul Goldschmidt and Giancarlo Stanton are back in the Yankee lineup after a day when both just pinch-hit.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Central on another beautiful day for baseball, 73° with light wind from left. Usual broadcast suspects.
