On the June 17 Dynamite, we learned more than about the card for AEW’s upcoming Forbidden Door PPV with CMLL, New Japan, and Stardom than just the make-ups of Mark Briscoe and AEW World champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman six-man cage match teams, and one-half of the Women’s Owen Cup final.
A scheduled promo segment from The Dogs was interrupted by the team David Finlay and Clark Connors have been attacking and mocking for weeks, AEW Tag champs Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.
After Finlay saved his fellow Dog from a double-Spear, Christian got on the microphone. He passed on taking shots at their fathers, instead pointing out how their team is named after their mothers.
Cope meanwhile got philosophical, telling Finlay and Connors they remind him of a young E&C. For that reason, and all the beatings and impersonations, they want to defend their belts against The Dogs in San Jose on Sun., June 28. Tony Khan thinks that’s a swell idea.
Elsewhere on Dynamite, Brodido beat Death Riders in a proverbial banger, with Daniel Garcia taking the pin and putting a tag loss on Continental champion Jon Moxley’s record.
Mox and DG spent most of the rest of their night in and around Will Ospreay’s business, but they made time to visit Brody King and Bandido backstage while the former Tag champs were being interviewed. There, the lead Death Rider offered the ROH World champ a shot at his Continental belt, under Continental Rules of course…
Their matchmaking boss liked that idea too.
