Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Cubs fans and fans across the country.
While nothing’s certain until it’s clinched, the Cubs seem headed to a postseason spot, whether it’s a Wild Card berth (and they currently have the first Wild Card spot and lead over the Diamondbacks and Phillies by 5.5 games) or the NL Central title. Thanks to the Padres defeating the Brewers Monday, the Cubs crept to within five games of the division
lead.
Now that the Cubs’ starting rotation has been solidified with the acquisitions of Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes, and will be further bolstered when Edward Cabrera returns from the injured list, who do you think should be the Game 1 starter for whatever postseason series the Cubs are in?
Matthew Boyd certainly has a case to be that starter, as he was last year. On the other hand, one of the reasons for the acquisition of Gausman was his outstanding record in last year’s postseason with the Blue Jays.
You could even make a case for Shōta Imanaga, given how well he’s pitched for the last couple of months.
Or would it depend on the round and/or the Cubs’ opponent?
Vote for your choice and let us know your reasoning in the comments and I’ll have the final results of this survey later in the week.
