Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez kept his IBF super featherweight title with a win over Christopher Diaz tonight, and appears headed for a bigger bout next, as he was joined in the ring by WBO titleholder Emanuel Navarrete.
Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KO) had been shown in the crowd earlier in the evening, and was then introduced post-fight by promoter Eddie Hearn.
“There’s another great Mexican war that I think needs to be made, and that’s ‘Sugar’ Nunez against Emanuel Navarrete,” Hearn said, before calling Navarrete over.
Like Nunez, Navarrete has faced and defeated Diaz in the past.
“I enjoyed the way he fought tonight, I thought it was a good fight,” Navarrete said, noting Diaz’s toughness from his own experience. “It would be a pleasure to fight ‘Sugar’ Nunez. I think more than anything, Mexico want that fight.”
Nunez (29-1, 27 KO) then took the mic and responded.
“It’s a real honor to have you here right now, and it’s great to hear you say you want to fight me. I admire you a great deal and I’d love to share the ring with you. Let’s give Mexico that fight.”
The two then did a quick face-off, to boisterous cheers in Los Mochis.
