Pooh Jeter has been hired by the Los Angeles Lakers as their new Director of Pro Scouting, according to Mark J. Spears of Andscape. Jeter has been with the Portland Trail Blazers since 2023 in a variety of roles. He was named as a Player Development Coach, and also the Assistant GM of the G League Rip City Remix.
Jeter has a close bond with Blazers guard Scoot Henderson. They were teammates on the G League Ignite, and neighbors in the same apartment building. Henderson claims Jeter’s mentorship was
invaluable to him as a teenager skipping college for the G League. Portland’s hiring of Jeter was a boost for Henderson’s NBA transition. Now the Los Angeles native finds himself going home to lead scouting for the NBA’s most valuable franchise.
Jeter’s first stint in Portland came in 2002, when he joined the University of Portland’s Men’s Basketball team. He ranks as U of P’s second all-time leading scorer, and was a 2-time All-WCC first team selection. Jeter was elected into the University of Portland’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.
