The hat-tricks just keep coming along, with João Pedro joining the party and scoring our third hat-trick of the past month (all three away, incidentally). It’s the 24-year-old’s first Premier League hat-trick.
With 17 goals in all competitions now on the season, JP has a chance to be our first striker to reach the 20-goal plateau in nearly a decade, since Diego Costa did so in 2016-17. I guess he’s a proper No.9 after all!
Perhaps the most wonderful part of the hat-trick was that two of them were absolute
tap-ins. Right place, right time, the team delivering them on a plate. That’s teamwork, Holmes!
“He’s a top player. I think he’s grown in confidence. I think his hold-up play, the energy he puts into the team in terms of his press, his movement, his goal with the left foot is world-class. The finish is magnificent.
“But actually, I’m really, really delighted with his two tap-ins that he got. He was in the right place at the right time. We worked hard with him on that, but he gets the hat-trick. It’s really hard to single someone out. I thought it was an outstanding team performance.”

It certainly was a dream night for the striker, who came off the beach to help us win the Club World Cup this summer and is now proving that he can indeed lead the way for us consistently as well.
“It was a dream night for me. Since I joined Chelsea, I’ve been dreaming of these moments to play for a big team and get my hat-trick – and I think it was a perfect night to get my first hat-trick. We just need to keep moving forward. I’m just living my dream here. I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me on my journey.”
“I think everyone was perfect. When the team plays like this, I will get chances. I think everyone was top. It was a special day — everyone did a brilliant job. […] All my goals came from being in the right place at the right time. The team expects that from me. The goals were always important.”
