Harry Kane was back to full fitness and fully available for the second leg against Italian side Atalanta in the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday night. The result was a staggering win for the Bavarian giants. Among the top performances of the evening, was Ballon d’Or candidate Harry Kane.
After appearing off the bench against Atalanta last week, several fans were concerned about Bayern’s ability ot advance past the Italian side, and a lack of trust in Nicolas Jackson. Despite a mixed performance
from the African striker, the team put forth a performance to be proud of.
Knowing the major aggregate advantage going into the second leg, Kane wasn’t eager to go easy on Atalanta.
“With such a lead from the first leg, it’s easy to be complacent. But we said that we wanted to win with the same style as the first leg. Credit to the boys, we were there from the first to the last minute. Some of the youngsters got their debuts. Overall we can be happy,” as per @iMiaSanMia.
Bayern certainly weren’t complacent in the second leg. Despite a major advantage and simply requiring a very minimal performance to advance to the next round, Bayern actually continued their strong performance and beat the visitors to complete the scoreline with 10-2 on aggregate.
Kane and the rest of the team were motivated as ever despite the clear advantage and despite the need to rotate players, and manage playtime, did more than enough to easily secure a spot in the quarterfinals. Bayern Munich will now be facing Real Madrid in the quarters. There is a significant history between the two clubs in European competitions, and while history has favored the Spanish side, Bayern Munich will be keen to make another deep run in this year’s competition.
