Well here’s some exciting news, at least potentially: Duke coach Jon Scheyer says that there’s an “outside chance” that Caleb Foster could be back for the Sweet 16, and credits his hard work, and “who he is” for that being possible.
First off: that’s amazing. And second: he reportedly had a fractured bone, right? No doubt he’s working hard, but how does hard work heal a fracture? Can anyone explain that?
Or maybe it’s just a hairline fracture and it’s possible to brace it in such a way that you can’t
do more damage?
It’s really hard for a layman to understand. You could imagine that in a hand, or with an injury that you can’t really make worse. Chris Duhon played in the 2004 Final Four with a rib injury that limited him. We tend to forget how courageous that was.
But a fracture? One that required surgery?
We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again: DUMC (Duke University Medical Center) is an underrated asset for Duke Basketball. It’s done amazing things for Elton Brand, Kyrie Irving, and now, perhaps, Foster.
