The San Francisco 49ers host their first preseason game of the season against the Tennessee Titans. We’ll see which starters are in uniform. You’d think, even though they’re expected to play significant roles this season, rookies De’Zhaun Stribling and Romello Height would see some action. They’re both in uniform.
Robert Saleh will play his starters. That’ll give the Niners’ second team some good looks. Speaking of the second team, we won’t see Mac Jones in this matchup. He’s a player that could have
some value in the early part of the season if another team suffers an injury at quarterback. Unless you’re buying teams being interested in the Vikings backup.
No Brock Purdy or Jones means it’s the Kurtis Rourke and Adrian Martinez show. We should get a long look at Jordan Watkins, Wesley Grimes, Will Pauling, and Malik Turner. Those four are competing for roster and practice-squad spots.
We’ll also get a first look at Raheem Morris’s defense. We’ll see how much it includes 5-man fronts. That could be something he wants to see in practice and rep over and over. Don’t expect to see Morris dig during the preseason.
