The season’s over. Now the Season can begin. Welcome to Silly Season!
The biggest story of the summer is bound to be the future of Enzo Fernández. He’s already flirted (sort of) with Real Madrid — or at least the city of Madrid — for which he was rather harshly suspended two games by the club. That probably didn’t help the relationship!
More recently, he’s also been linked with Manchester City, especially once it became clear that Pep Guardiola was leaving and likely to be succeeded by Enzo Maresca.
In this tale of two Enzos, they already shared the worst of times, now they might as well share the best of them.
In a way, the latter rumor seems more likely, even if the weather’s even worse in Manchester than in London. Madrid can wait. Then again, Enzo just might be a perfect Mourinho player, and the Special Once is about to make it twice manager of Real.
As Ben Jacobs reports, Enzo “would welcome” bids from either. He especially would like Champions League football, which he’s failed to deliver to us repeatedly. Chelsea will of course look to at least break even — so something around £70-80m? The least expected outcome at this point is Enzo staying and signing a new contract.
Let’s start the Silliness!
