Bayern Munich enters the new Bundesliga campaign as the team everyone will be chasing, but is there a legitimate challenger capable of making the title race interesting?
Bayern Munich have the depth, star power, experience, and financial resources to remain the favorites. Vincent Kompany has also had another preseason to further establish his ideas, while the squad has added quality and still possesses some of the best individual talent in the league.
But the Bundesliga has several teams that could
make things difficult.
Borussia Dortmund will naturally be one of the first names mentioned. Dortmund has the talent to compete at the top, and if it can find consistency over an entire Bundesliga season, it could potentially push Bayern Munich much harder than they did last season.
Bayer Leverkusen also deserves consideration. Their recent success showed that Bayern Munich can be knocked off their perch when another team puts together an exceptional campaign. Even with changes to its squad and coaching situation, Leverkusen remains a club with serious ambitions.
Then there are teams such as RB Leipzig, who has the young talent and resources to compete if everything comes together.
The biggest question may not be whether Bayern Munich is vulnerable, but whether another Bundesliga club can produce the consistency required to take advantage of even the smallest slip-ups.
