The Tennessee Titans will officially begin training camp on July 28th when the veterans report to Vanderbilt Health Football Camp in Nashville. We’ll be previewing several position groups until then. The Titans have 13 wide receivers on the offseason roster. General manager Mike Borgonzi made big-time acquisitions at this position.
In camp (13): Carnell Tate, Wan’Dale Robinson, Calvin Ridley, Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, Bryce Oliver, Xavier Restrepo, KJ Osborn, Hank Beatty, Tyren Montgomery, Mason
Kinsey, Courtney Jackson, Lance McCutcheon.
Biggest storyline: The Titans drafted Carnell Tate at No. 4 overall and signed Wan’Dale Robinson to a four year, $70 million contract in free agency. Those two newcomers are expected to serve as Cam Ward’s go-to targets in the passing game this season.
Most to prove: The Titans brought Calvin Ridley back on a reduced contract. He’s coming off a disappointing campaign that ended with a season-ending injury. How does Ridley fit the new-look receiver room? New Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll briefly coached him at Alabama.
Breakout star: Chimere Dike was All-Pro as a rookie for his historic season as a kickoff and punt returner. Now, the former Florida standout will attempt to be a more well-rounded receiver on offense. Dike came on strongly as his rookie year progressed forward, and he was a standout during OTAs and minicamp. He’ll try to push Ridley for reps in three receiver sets.
Training camp competition: The Titans have five shoe-ins at receiver in Tate, Robinson, Ridley, Dike, and Ayomanor. The sixth (and presumably) final spot on the 53-man roster will be decided at training camp. With 13 total wideouts on the offseason roster, a number of pass catchers are competing for that role. Bryce Oliver is the favorite, but rookie UDFAs Tyren Montgomery and Hank Beatty are present, as are mainstays Xavier Restrepo and Mason Kinsey.
