Bayern Munich takes on 1. FC Köln today in the Frauen-Bundesliga.
After a shaky display that resulted in a last-gasp win on the road at Bayer Leverkusen, the Bavarians have just this one chance to regroup and get back in form before a huge Champions League tilt against Manchester City on Tuesday.
Köln is actually off to a fast start this season, with three wins and one loss from the opening four matchdays. The one loss came against third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt…but this should be the biggest test
by far.
It’s not one Bayern will take lightly, either.
“Köln are in very good form. They’ve won three games in a row, scoring eight goals and not conceding any against difficult opponents like Hoffenheim and Union Berlin. They’re very aggressive in their defending and like to press one-v-one. We need to move the game quickly and be very precise in our positional play. We need a very good performance on the whole to get a result against Köln,” Bayern coach José Barcala said in his match preview, captured via FCBayern.com.
A notable absence for Barcala will be midfielder Bernadette Amani, who has started in the pivot alongside Momoko Tanikawa.
Prediction: Bayern wins, 3-0. Not quite smooth sailing, but a much more assured display is coming today — hopefully springboarding into the UWCL.
