Both the Husker men and women’s basketball teams heard their names called on Selection Sunday. The men will face Troy as a #4 seed and the women play a First Four game vs the Richmond Spiders. It is fun having meaningful basketball for both teams in March as Husker fans!
What a weekend for the ball and bat sports at Nebraska. The softball team swept Michigan, which is typically a top program in the B1G. But, let’s talk about baseball for a minute. They hosted the Maine Black Bears…a two-win team.
Friday night was a come-from-behind walk-off win. They had to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth, without Dylan Carey and showing very little offensive life all game, in order to win. It seem like too tall a hill to climb.
But climb it they did.
Nebraska took care of business in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader but decided to “double” down on the drama in the second game. This time, they were down four runs heading to the bottom of the ninth.
They scored five and likely would have scored more if the game didn’t end because Nebraska took the lead back.
I don’t know whether to celebrate two massively clutch performances or to remind myself the Huskers never should have been in that position against Maine. What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
