Earlier today, I made a trip up to Everett. As I was passing by Funko Field, a thought struck me.
“AquaSox.” What a name. Have wet socks ever been a good thing? In that sense, the Mariners’ recent development of minor league talent seems somewhat antithetical to their High-A affiliate’s team name. Everett did win the Northwest League last year. Maybe it’s referring to those things you can slip on your feet when you swim? Or I suppose having to play with wet socks could be a weakness for their opponents.
I think I’ve read that some people like the feeling of wet socks, though? I don’t know. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
Speaking of sogginess, the Mariners are hoping to win their third consecutive game and take the four-game series over the Orioles on Wednesday night—assuming the rain tapers off as forecasted.
George Kirby is scheduled to get the start for Seattle. He’s coming off his shortest outing of the season thus far, a loss against the Mets on June 3 where he allowed four earned runs on nine hits. Kirby is looking for his first winning decision since May 11 against the Astros. The O’s will counter with righty Brandon Young, who is 4-1 with a 3.47 ERA and 4.28 FIP so far in 2026.
The Mariners announced a list of roster moves Wednesday afternoon, with reliever Matt Brash most notably landing on the injured list with a right lat strain. John Trupin has more on those transactions here.
Lineups
Miles Mastrobuoni was reinstated from the 60-day injured list as part of the aforementioned roster moves, and he’ll get the start at second for the Mariners. Cole Young will lead off and play shortstop, and both Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone are in the lineup against a righty. Patrick Wisdom rounds out lineup at third base.
