Once again, it’s been a long, brutal East Coast August road trip for the M’s. While no matter what, they’ve clinched a better record than last year’s 1-8 debacle in Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles, that’s a subterranean bar. The good news, though, is that neither their playoff nor division odds have not suffered much thanks to the Astros and Red Sox also dropping their last three games. Headed into today, Seattle’s playoff odds per FanGraphs sit at 89.3 – still the highest in the AL West – with
the AL West crown slightly less than a coin flip at 47.4%. With one final chance to mitigate this road trip of horrors, finding a way to win this morning feels critical.
Lineups:

Thanks to the Phillies throwing out a third consecutive lefty in old friend Jesús Luzardo, Dominic Canzone needing another day after being plunked on the wrist on Monday, and Josh Naylor in a mini-slump the past week, the Mariners will turn to their bench. Donovan Solano (who is 7-for-13 lifetime against Luzardo) gets a rare start at first, and Dylan Moore gets his second straight start in right field. Although the M’s won in Luis Castillo’s last outing – that wild 11-9 win in Queens that unfortunately is the last time they’ve been in the win column – La Piedra will look to flush an ugly outing in which he surrendered six runs over four innings, with oodles of hard contact to boot. Philadelphia will counter with a similar lineup we’ve seen the last two days, with Max Kepler filling in for Nick Castellanos.
