Let me tell you about the biggest letdown I ever had on Halloween.
I was 10 years old, or somewhere around that age, and well into a night of trick-or-treating. As I moved between houses, I came across
one with an old couple handing out goods. The place wasn’t very well lit, so I couldn’t see exactly what the woman put in my bag, but I could tell it was something decently big and wrapped in plastic. A full-size candy bar, I thought.
Giddy, I hurried back down the driveway, went to the nearest street light, and opened my bag to reveal…
A Nutri-Grain bar.
Now, I’m well aware that there are plenty worse things I could have gotten, but when you think you got a candy bar and it turns out you got a breakfast bar, that’s a pretty big letdown.
For both Carolina and Syracuse, this season has been a pretty big letdown. Hype has turned into humiliation in Chapel Hill, while a potentially great year for the Orange has gone totally off the rails since quarterback Steve Angeli tore his Achilles tendon in week 4. Both teams enter tonight’s matchup having lost four straight games and own a combined record of 5-10.
One side will earn a (likely temporary) reprieve from its downward spiral. The other will fall deeper into it. Here’s how to watch:
