We have officially hit May, which means the end of the 2025-2026 Minnesota Golden Gopher athletic year is nearly here. Spring sports are winding down with conference tournaments either here or just on the horizon—if the teams can qualify for them that is. We have one Big Ten Tournament this weekend and what basically is a play-in for another Gopher team as well. The full weekend schedule is below along with how you can keep track of all the action.
Friday May 1st:
Men’s Golf @ Big Ten Championships 11:30
The Gopher men’s gold team heads to Oregon and Pumpkin
Ridge Golf Club for the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Golf Tournament this weekend. Team will play 18 holes each of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Five Gophers competed in 10 tournaments during the season, including sophomore Jack Crousore and freshman Joe Honsa, who participated in team competition for all events. Crousore placed inside the top 10 three times, including a tournament title at the Robert Kepler Invitational (Apr. 11-12). Honsa has shot under par during three events this season, earning a career-best, 54-hole mark of 5-under-par during The Johnnie-O (Mar. 9-10).
Tee times begin at 11:30 Friday and live scoring is available HERE.
Softball @ Northwestern 1 PM B1G+
The Gopher softball team closes out the Big Ten regular season schedule with a three-game series at Northwestern beginning at 1 PM Friday afternoon. The series will act as a play-in to the Big Ten Tournament for the Gophers as they sit perilously on the bubble of qualifying for the tournament.
Minnesota enters the weekend with a record of 15-33 overall and a 6-15 record in Big Ten play this season. That currently slots them in a tie for 12th place in the conference with Iowa and one game ahead of Rutgers. Only the top 12 teams in the regular season qualify for next weekend’s Big Ten Tournament, so the Gophers will need to fair better this weekend than both the Hawkeyes and Scarlet Knights if they wants to keep their season alive one more weekend. Iowa will be hosting 10th place Purdue while Rutgers is at 7th place Wisconsin.
Northwestern heads into the weekend with a 27-19 overall record and a 14-7 mark in B1G play. The Wildcats are top 10 in the conference in multiple offensive categories. As a team, they are batting .302 with 367 hits, 73 doubles, 55 home runs, while driving in 270 runs. In the circle, Northwestern ranks 6th in the Big Ten, owning a team ERA of 3.89 with 240 strikeouts across 287.4 innings of work. Marina Mason paces the staff with a 16-8 record, 2.29 ERA with 146 strikeouts in 131 innings.
Friday’s game will stream on B1G+.
Baseball @ Penn State 4:30 PM B1G+
The Gopher baseball team takes on Penn State in their final conference road series this weekend. As we discussed earlier this week the Gophers are in a fight to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament currently sitting in 13th place with three weekends remaining. The top 12 teams make the tournament. With second place Nebraska awaiting on the final weekend of the regular season, Minnesota needs to win games against teams like Penn State who currently sit in 16th place in the standings.
Friday’s first pitch is set for 4:30 PM and will stream on B1G+.
Saturday May 2nd:
Rowing @ Twin Cities 2K—Lake Phalen 8:15 AM
The Gopher rowing team will host their first home regatta since 2016 on Saturday when they welcome Wisconsin, Iowa and Kansas to Lake Phalen in St. Paul. Heats begin at 8:15 AM with finals set to begin at 12:30 PM.
Track and Field @ Spec Towns Track 10 AM SEC+
The Gopher track and field teams close out their final regular season meet at the Spec Towns Track held by the University of Georgia on Saturday. Events stat with the women’s hammer throw at 10AM. The meet wil stream on SEC+ via ESPN and live results are available HERE.
The Maroon and Gold men and women were both ranked inside the USTFCCCA’s latest outdoor track and field rankings. The men came in at No. 12 nationally while the women were 22nd. In the event squad rankings Minnesota’s depth on the men’s side shows in the hammer throw where they are ranked No. 2 nationally and also in the 100m where the team is No. 3. The men’s hammer group in Minnesota averages 69.32m among its top four. The women’s team broke through in the women’s hammer throw Event Squad rankings for the first time with the group jumping to the No. 1 ranking with an average of 65.18m.
