Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo says that Lamine Yamal has to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or award
.The teenager is one of 30 nominees for the prestigious prize, with the winner set to be announced in October.
Cancelo has been asked for his thoughts and says there is no doubt that his team-mate is the best player on the planet.
“The only player who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or is Lamine Yamal,” he said, per Fabrizio Romano.
“He’s won so many trophies at 19, World Cup, Euros, all trophies with Barça and
his season was incredible… and he’s by far the best talent and best player in the world”.
“For me there’s no other player who can win the Ballon d’Or. It has to be Lamine.”
Deco and Hansi Flick have also said publicly this week they think that Yamal deserves to win the award after a season where he won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain.
