According to a report form Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the DFB’s anticipated flight to New York City will happen this weekend, as the organization will look to lock down Jürgen Klopp to a contract. Below, are the details for what Klopp will be offered, who his assistants might be, and how his break (which might not be a full break) from Red Bull will work per the report:
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke are flying to New York this weekend to finalize the
deal with Jürgen Klopp as new Germany head coach
Details of the deal:
—4-year contract until 2030, including the 2030 World Cup
—Salary: Klopp will earn slightly higher than Nagelsmann’s €7m/year salary
—Staff: Klopp’s long-term assistants Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders are almost guaranteed to be part of his backroom staff. Many potential assistant coaches have also applied to Klopp in recent days
—The DFB will not pay Red Bull a compensation fee to release him out of his contract. Instead, he will remain with Red Bull as a brand ambassador, which is more valuable to them than a single-digit million compensation
Admittedly, it sure looks like Klopp’s exit as head of global football from Red Bull will be easier than many would have thought. From a contractual standpoint, everything looks in order for Klopp, who was never going to require an exorbitant fee for what should be a passion project.
If the talks are successful, the next era of German football will be on tap.
