Triple-A: Norfolk Tides vs. Charlotte Knights (White Sox) (Ppd.—Rain)
The Tides game on Tuesday was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Double-A: Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants) 4, Cheasapeake Baysox 0
Blake Money gave the Baysox five good innings, but the offense couldn’t get out of neutral in a shutout loss to the Flying Squirrels.
Money quickly found himself behind after giving up a triple to the first batter he faced before allowing Richmond to take a lead 1-0 on a sac fly. The big 23-year-old out of LSU gave up another run in the 3rd after giving up a two-out double and a run-scoring single.
Those runs doomed Money to taking the loss, but outside of those two rough spots, he continued to show his plus strikeout stuff. The 6’7” right-hander fanned seven Flying Squirrels across five frames, including two punchouts in his fifth and final inning. The former 12th-round pick has 64 Ks in 46.2 innings since being promoted to Double-A in the middle of June.
Offensively, the Baysox only managed to get eight singles and no extra-base hits. The Chesapeake lineup especially struggled with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-8. They also excelled at killing rallies before they started by hitting into three double plays. Infielder Aron Estrada was one of three players with two singles, and is now hitting .299 with a .923 OPS in 17 games with the Baysox.
High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 5, Aberdeen IronBirds 4
The IronBirds fell behind 5-0 in the 3rd inning, got the tying run to third base in the 9th, but lined into a game-ending double play to seal the loss to the Cyclones.
Early on, it was rough going for Wellington Aracena against his former organization. Acquired from the Mets in the Gregory Soto trade, Aracena started his day by issuing two free passes in the 1st, advancing both runners into scoring position on a balk and finally giving up two runs on a wild pitch and RBI groundout. Command problems plagued the 20-year-old Dominican throughout the first three innings, allowing Brooklyn to tack on two more runs in the 2nd and another run in the 3rd.
Griff O’Ferrall finally got the IronBirds on the scoreboard with an RBI single to score Nate George in the bottom of the 3rd. Then, in the 6th, Aberdeen loaded the bases with two outs before a walk and a wild pitch saw them cut the deficit to 5-3.
Thomas Sosa hit a solo homer in the 7th to cut the Brooklyn lead to one, as the outfielder finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and the long ball. After Vance Honeycutt and George both struck out to leave the tying run stranded in the 8th, O’Ferrall tried to kick start one final rally in the 9th. The Aberdeen infielder led off the last frame with a single and stole second to put himself into scoring position. A long fly out from Sosa moved O’Ferrall to third, only for Anderson De Los Santos to line into a game-ending double play to short.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 12, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (White Sox)
Some of the Orioles’ newest draft picks helped the Shorebirds explode for 12 runs and 15 hits to sink the Cannon Ballers in their series opener.
After falling behind 5-0 early, 2025 first-round pick Caden Bodine got the scoring started for Delmarva, hitting a two-0ut single in the 3rd and scoring on a Braylin Tavera triple. Bodine led the Shorebirds with three hits (all singles) and would score his second run of the game on an RJ Austin bases-loaded double in the 5th. Austin, the O’s third-round pick out of Vanderbilt, finished the day 2-for-4 with a three RBIs.
Two other recent first-round picks, Ike Irish and Wehiwa Aloy, got in on the action starting in the 6th. Aloy hit a one-out double to right, moved to third on a balk and scored on an Irish RBI groundout. That pair would then combine for more fireworks in the 7th.
With Delmarva down 9-6 and runners on first and second, Aloy doubled into the left field gap to score both runners. Irish then delivered his second single of the day to bring home Aloy and tie the game at 9-9.
The game-winning hit came via the least heralded of the 2025 draft picks at Low-A, 13th round selection Brayden Smith. In the bottom of the 8th, Tavera led of the inning with a walk and then moved to third on a double from 2025 fourth-rounder Colin Yeaman. After strikeouts by Austin and Cobb Hightower, Smith delivered the biggest hit of his burgeoning professional career, jumping on a 1-0 pitch and blasting it over the right-center wall for the deciding homer.
