Former New York Giants Quarterback Phil Simms will be on call this weekend for the Rutgers matchup against Miami (OH). The former two-time Super Bowl winner and Super Bowl MVP will be a part of the game coverage team on Peacock.
Simms’ on field accolades are some of the most impressive of any NFL player. After his playing days were done, he added a legendary career in the broadcast booth to his resume, being on call for eight Super Bowls. Now he joins the Peacock broadcast crew and will call several
Big Ten games this season.
Simms and Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano have been acquainted for a long time.
”I got to see Phil (yesterday). You know, I have a long history with Phil, and certainly a great, great player and a longtime broadcaster as well. So, yeah, that’ll be cool,” Schiano said after being asked how it felt to have Simms broadcast the game.
During the Schiano 1.0 era, Simms was a mentor for Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel when he was having his struggles, according to an article by ESPN. Teel trained with both of Simms’ sons, Chris and Matt, and developed a close relationship with the Simms family.
Rutgers vs Miami (OH) will kick off at 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 6, at SHI Stadium.
