The first NCAA transfer portal addition for the Texas Longhorns is a big one as head coach Sean Miller and his staff secured a commitment from Colorado Buffaloes transfer guard Isaiah Johnson on Saturday.
The 6’1, 170-pounder has three
seasons of eligibility remaining.
Out of Valley Village (Calif.) Campbell Hall, Johnson was an overlooked recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, signing with Colorado over offers from Denver, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston, San Diego, UC Davis, UC Riverside, Weber State. A consensus three-star prospect, Johnson was the No. 294 overall prospect and No. 33 point guard, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Johnson quickly proved those rankings wrong, scoring 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and 10-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line in his collegiate debut against Montana State and going on to finish as an All-Big 12 honorable mention performer by averaging 16.9 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in 30.6 minutes per game for the Buffaloes.
An efficient scorer with a high usage rate, Johnson shot 37.8 percent from three-point range and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line with a knack for drawing fouls. As a mid-range shooter and finisher near the rim, Johnson was less effective, making 66.2 percent of his shots around the basket and 32.7 percent far twos. More of a scorer than a primary playmaker, Johnson took care of the ball well with a turnover rate of 11.3 percent and did have an assist rate of 18.6 percent.
Johnson is ranked as the No. 12 player overall and the No. 3 point guard in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings.
