Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich has been confirmed, with Chelsea announcing tonight the “season-long loan” of the 24-year-old striker to the Bundesliga giants (and our future Champions League opposition).
Chelsea’s official statement makes no mention of any future considerations, but we do “thank Nico for his efforts throughout his time at Stamford Bridge” which sounds like a farewell to me. Bayern reportedly have a conditional obligation to make the loan permanent for an additional €65m on top
of the €16.5m loan fee they’re already paying. The condition is predicated on a certain (but apparently reasonable) number of appearances.
So we’ll see what happens with all that, but for all intents and purposes, this is goodbye to Nico.
“Nicolas was immediately keen to play for Bayern, so we’re especially pleased that things have finally worked out. Even at a young age, he already has lots of experience at a top international level and has shown his qualities. Nicolas is an ideal fit for the profile we’re looking for with his dynamism and presence. He’s hungry and will expand our options in attack with his abilities, being an immediate boost for our team.”

Jackson joined Chelsea in 2023 on the back of a tremendous six months at Villarreal, and he would score in double-digits in both of his season at Stamford Bridge. He leaves with 30 goals in 81 appearances, but also a lot of questions about his discipline and consistency. As things stand, he might be most remembered for getting sent off in both of his last two appearances for the club.
Unique as that may be, is Jackson can put it together, he will certainly make an impact at Bayern, where he won’t be looked upon as the main man. Will be intriguing to see how he gets on, and how it all shakes out with the transfer clause. He’s taken the No.11 shirt, which belonged to Kingsley Coman who left to join Al Nassr earlier this summer.
Farewell and best of luck, Nico!
