Happy Canada Day. Maybe we can have a win as a present.
I joke about my parents deciding to immigrate to the coldest place on the planet, but Antarctica wasn’t taking immigrants, so they choose second best, Edmonton Alberta. But I’m very happy they made that choice. Not that it was easy for them. They picked a city across the world, where they knew no one. And they choose to come in the middle of winter. They didn’t have a home to go to and had $300 according to immigration records and a four year
old, my brother.
My dad was a bricklayer and immediately got work out of town. So he was away all week. And they paid double on weekends, so often he was away weeks at a time. I can’t imagine having no friends or family and a small child in a small home through a cold Edmonton winter.
What I didn’t know, until the last couple of years of his life, is that mom went back to England and wasn’t planning on coming back, entirely understandable, as she had family and friends there. But, she did come back in the summer, or I wouldn’t be here.
I’ve been to England, a few times now, and I enjoy visiting, but I always come back happy that my parents made the choice to come here.
Max Scherzer is to make a rehab start Friday in Vancouver, and they will decide the next step from there. With us back to four starters, I’m worried that he’ll be called up to Toronto for the next start. I’m failing to see how that will be better than having Patrick Corbin starting.
Vlad (and Okamoto) are back in the lineup today. Keys DHes (with Springer away on Paternity Leave).
Some runs would be nice.
