Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies endured a very difficult 2025/26 season, missing the vast majority of the Hinrunde (first half of the Bundesliga). Then the Canadian left back suffered two hamstring strains in the Rückrunde (latter half) to complete an unfortunate, injury ravaged year.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel Brown had a stellar year. The 22-year-old became the undisputed starter at LB for Eintracht Frankfurt and enjoyed his first ever Champions League campaign, including a very solid outing against Lamine
Yamal in a match against FC Barcelona. Die Adler‘s poor form throughout meant that he was sometimes dragged down to the mean of the team, but he was one of very few Frankfurt players to enjoy a boost in his reputation following the conclusion of the season.
So it is unsurprising that Bayern wish to sign the German left back. What is more surprising is that they are willing to make Brown one of the most expensive full backs of all time to acquire him, leaving many to wonder if Davies will still be untouchable at Bayern if the transfer of Frankfurt’s prized asset is completed.
On that topic, Sky Sport reporters claim (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) that Brown’s arrival could, perhaps, spell the end of Davies’ time at the club:
Should the transfer of Nathaniel Brown be finalized, Alphonso Davies will not actively be pushed out. However, Bayern would at least listen to suitable offers for the Canadian. He is not considered unsellable.
So what would suitable offers be? Would Bayern expect a greater sum for Canada’s captain than they will potentially pay for Brown? Perhaps this is a situation to keep an eye on during the summer, but it could also be that the media are simply grasping to reaching conclusions that simply are not real.
