Is WWE really planning for Nick Aldis to get back in the ring for a match at SummerSlam? Let’s see what today’s rumors have to say about it!
Top rumor of the day: Plans for GUNTHER vs. Nick Aldis at WWE SummerSlam
WWE added a stipulation to Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight that creates a path for GUNTHER and Sami Zayn to be added to CM Punk and Cody Rhodes’ WWE championship match at SummerSlam, which would make it a Fatal 4-way. However, PW Insider’s latest report on SummerSlam makes it seem like that scenario won’t be the one that plays out.
According to Insider, GUNTHER
vs. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis is now “100% set” for SummerSlam on the weekend of August 1 & 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It’s scheduled to be Nick’s return to the ring after joining WWE back in 2023 in his current authority figure role.
Where does that leave Sami Zayn at SummerSlam, if Punk and Rhodes do go on to win at Saturday Night’s Main Event? I’ll let you speculate about that one in the comments below, while we await the next juicy rumor about WWE’s plans for the biggest party of the summer.
The rest of the rumors!
- On The Coach & Bro Show, Vince Russo said Bron Breakker’s bad booking in WWE is “all intentional.” He claims WWE does this to wrestlers to “get them back in line, to teach them a lesson, to see how they’re gonna react.”
- After Wrestling Observer Radio’s Bryan Alvarez was incredulous over Hangman Page not being on this week’s AEW Dynamite, co-host Dave Meltzer indicated that the reason why Hangman returned on the July 11 Collision was just to draw a better rating for that specific episode. In other words, AEW doesn’t necessarily have his future direction figured out right now.
- Fightful says there is an internal belief in WWE that Richard Holliday will sign with them. PW Insider heard that WWE was actually planning to bring in him for a WWE ID reveal during WrestleMania 42 week, even though it didn’t end up happening. It’s expected that Holliday will start in NXT.
- The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says “the belief” is that Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins will be the main event of the second night of SummerSlam on Sunday, August 2.
- Matt Morgan told Wrestling Life Online there was a period of time years ago when Triple H wasn’t interested in former TNA stars working in WWE: “He used to say, if you want to come, then you got to get rid of that TNA stank. It wouldn’t come from him directly. It would come from [Road Dogg], other people that I’m friends with that worked for the company.”
