Well, that’s no fun.
The Sixers released their injury report ahead of their second NBA Cup matchup against the Detroit Pistons. VJ Edgecombe’s name has popped up — he is listed as questionable with back
spasms. He did take a couple of hard falls in his most recent game against the Boston Celtics, but this blog won’t speculate any further.
Joel Embiid’s status was left up in the air when the Sixers last practiced, but he has also been ruled out vs. the Pistons with right knee soreness. So that’ll be at least two games he’ll miss because of that soreness, but at least the team has said there is no structural damage in that knee.
Dominick Barlow has missed the last nine games with an elbow laceration and subsequent procedure that didn’t heal as quickly as hoped. The two-way forward earned his way into the starting lineup for the first two games of the season before suffering that injury. Hunter Sallis is on a two-way assignment and is questionable. The Delaware Blue Coats play one day before that Pistons matchup.
The rest has already been reported. Paul George remains out as he tries to strengthen his quad to get that left knee completely ready to go. Jared McCain is out on a G-League assignment, set to play in that aforementioned Blue Coats game.
If there’s any consolation, Detroit’s injury report is just as crowded. Tobias Harris will miss this game as well. He’s missed the first two games against the Sixers with a right ankle sprain — as has Jaden Ivey, who’s yet to make his season debut recovering from a knee injury.
Jalen Duran is questionable with an ankle sprain and Cade Cunningham is questionable with a hip contusion. Both missed their most recent contest in which Detroit was still able to pick up a win against the Chicago Bulls.
