Right-back Sacha Boey could be staying at Bayern Munich after all.
Sporting director Christoph Freund has acknowledged that the likelihood of Boey remaining with the club has increased significantly after the club initially planned for a different outcome. Freund also made it clear that Boey has handled the situation professionally throughout the summer, praising the French full-back for his conduct despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
“The likelihood is now higher that he will stay here.
He has always behaved impeccably. We had a different plan, but that is football. If all markets are closed and he stays here, he will remain a player in our squad,” Freund said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Later, Freund would later double-down on that statement in an interview with Sky Germany journalist Torben Hoffmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) — and also add a special note at the end of his statement.
“The probability is now slimmer because not many markets are still open. But as I said before, he had a really good preseason, played well and always behaved professionally. If he stays, he will be part of our team and train with us normally. He’s a good player for us,” Freund said.
Freund, of course, was the Bayern Munich front office member who signed Boey.
Bayern Munich had been looking for a solution for Boey, with a departure appearing increasingly likely as the transfer window approached its conclusion. However, if no suitable move materializes and the relevant markets close, Boey will remain part of Vincent Kompany’s squad.
It would represent a notable change in direction for a player who appeared to be heading toward the exit door.
