Micah Parsons was conspicuous in his absence from the Packers’ playoff loss to the Chicago Bears. But in the days after, he’s made his presence felt, just as he’s done in virtually every moment he’s been in Green Bay since the Packers made the aggressive move to pry him away from the Dallas Cowboys.
Parsons, in the middle of rehabbing his torn ACL, was vociferous in his support of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, telling reporters Monday that LaFleur was one of the reasons he wanted to be in Green
Bay and reiterating his respect for the culture LaFleur has built.
It’s the sort of thing LaFleur could certainly use, and it’s the sort of statement that should get people to prick up their ears as the debate over LaFleur’s future rages. To a man, and starting with their very best player, the Packers have been vocal in their support for LaFleur. Whatever issues he may have as a coach, that’s not nothing. If LaFleur has the support of the locker room, there’s something to build on, however this season may have ended.
Parsons didn’t have to give LaFleur his stamp of approval. Nobody would have batted an eye if he’d just kept on keeping on with his rehab as he gets ready for 2026, and he could have just weighed in on the state of his knee and left it at that. But instead, Parsons gave LaFleur a significant endorsement. If Parsons is the leader people think him to be, that should matter.
