The Eagles secured their Week 1 win on Thursday which meant there was plenty of time to sit back and watch former Eagles throughout the league the rest of the weekend.
Here’s how some former Eagles fared in Week 1
Former Eagles take over MNF
There were a lot of former Eagles on the sideline Monday night when the Minnesota Vikings (Javon Hargrave, Isaiah Rodgers, Carson Wentz, Eric Wilson) came back to beat the Chicago Bears (Ryan Bates, Kevin Byard, T.J. Edwards, D’Andre Swift, Olamide Zaccheaus). Wentz and Edwards didn’t play,
Edwards is dealing with a hamstring injury and was inactive on Monday, but the rest of the Philly alumni played big roles in their season opener.
For the Vikings, Hargrave, Rodgers, and Wilson each had five total tackles, with Hargrave adding two dominant sacks to his statline, and Wilson managing to tip a punt — a play that Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said post-game was a main reason they won.
For the Bears, Swift tried to carry the offense as the passing game struggled and had 17 rushes for 53 yards. Olamide Zaccheaus had four catches for 42 yards, but had seven targets and could have a big role in the offense this season — if Caleb Williams can figure things out.
Haason Reddick is back
Zach Ertz is still a nice endzone target
Washington had nearly double-digit former Eagles on their roster through training camp, but after roster cuts, only three of those guys made the active roster. Marcus Mariota didn’t need to play in Week 1, Jeremy Reaves is still a solid special team player, and Zach Ertz brought in three catches for 26 yards and a TD.
Thomas Booker making plays
The Eagles sent DT Thomas Booker to the Raiders in exchange for CB Jakorian Bennett, and Booker looks to be an immediate contribution to Las Vegas’ defense. The DT recorded three total tackles, including one QB hit, and a pass breakup in his Raiders debut.
Josh Jobe’s first INT of the season
Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe was targeted five times and allowed just one catch in his Week 1 performance. Jobe also made his second-career interception late in the game.
Other notables
- Josh Sweat is receiving mixed reactions to his debut with the Cardinals, but he contributed and got to the Saints QB once.
- Running back Raheem Mostert was a healthy scratch for the Raiders in Week 1.
- Mekhi Becton now has two wins in Brazil thanks to the Chargers beating the Chiefs for their season opener.
- LB Christian Elliss led the Patriots defense with nine total tackles against the Raiders. Elliss saw a career-high 69 percent of the defensive snaps in his second year with New England.
- The Browns lost to the Bengals by one point, and QB Joe Flacco had a rough day for Cleveland. Flacco finished the game 31-of-45 attempts for 290 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. It’ll be interesting to see just how long the team stays committed to Flacco with so many young guys on the bench.
- C.J. Gardner-Johnson played Week 1 for the Texans and had four total tackles in their loss to the Rams.
- The 49ers beat the Seahawks, barely, and DE Bryce Huff played 50 percent of the defensive snaps, but didn’t record a tackle or QB hit, and had just one pressure.
- The Steelers pulled off an exciting win over the Jets, and three former Eagles went 1-0 in the process, including Kenny Gainwell, Isaac Seumalo, and Darius Slay. Gainwell played a big role for Pittsburgh, and finished the day with seven carries for 19 yards, three catches for four yards, one fumble and one fumble recovery, a 33-yard kick return, and a made a huge tackle on special teams.
