Chardrack Mpoyi, a center from California, has committed to Niko Medved and the Gophers. Here is more about the young man and how he fits.
Chadrick Mpoyi
Pos: Center
Ht: 6’11
Wt: 240
Mpoyi visited Minnesota during the opening weekend of the football season. He was here for the Buffalo game along with Quinn
Costello (now committed to Michigan) and Lucas Morillo (a top 100 SG who is still considering Minnesota). Mpoyi ended up choosing the Gophers over offers from Utah, Cal, Oregon State, Utah State and others; with heavy interest from Arizona.
He is bringing imposing size and tenacity to the Gopher frontcourt. I was next to him on the sidelines before the Buffalo game and I can confirm that Mpoyi is a large human. Upon watching video of him, I see a lot of similarities to Trevor Mbakwe. He attacks the ball while rebounding, he finds openings near the rim for dunks and plays with physicality.
This is a recruit with a high ceiling and could be an elite Big Ten big man.
What is next?
Adding Mpoyi gives Medved his third player in the 2026 class.
- PG – Cedric Tomes
- F – Nolen Anderson
- C – Chardrick Mpoyi
This class has great balance and all three players are great fits for the type of system that Medved has employed.
This week, Medved and stafff had shooting guard, Joseph Hartman is visiting and is a priority recruit. He is a top-100 guard from Florida and his father is actually an assistant coach on the Gators’ staff. Hartman is coming off a visit to Iowa, and this is going to be an interesting recruiting battle. But he would be a fantastic addition to this already strong class.
