Newcastle United’s summer rebuild was clearly focused on acquiring young players with room to develop, and the club appears to be searching for even more emerging talent ahead of future transfer windows.
That search has reportedly taken Newcastle to Sweden. According to TransferFeed, the Magpies are among the clubs considering a future approach for Djurgarden attacker Bo Hegland, a 22-year-old Norwegian who has emerged as one of the Allsvenskan’s most productive players.
“Newcastle United is one of
the clubs that could make an approach for Bo Hegland,” TransferFeed reported.
All that said, don’t get overly excited. Newcastle is not believed to be preparing an immediate offer, but just monitoring Hegland and assessing whether his performances warrant a future move.
Fotbollskanalen reported that Newcastle has already taken that process a step further by sending scouts to watch Hegland in person during Djurgarden’s 4-0 victory over Mjallby right before the transfer deadline, but that’s it for now.
Hegland has recorded six goals and 13 assists through 19 matches this season. Across all competitions, the Norway Under-21 international has produced seven goals and 14 assists in 22 matches.
TransferFeed reported that Anderlecht made a formal offer for Hegland in September, while Lorient has also been credited with specific interest. Newcastle, however, has time to continue evaluating him. Hegland only joined Djurgarden from Moss last year and remains under contract through the end of 2029. TransferFeed cited Transfermarkt’s current valuation of €2.5 million (£2.2 million), although no potential transfer fee has been reported.
Hegland would fit the profile Newcastle increasingly targeted during its first summer under Matthias Jaissle, with the Magpies investing heavily in younger players.
Should Newcastle move early for Hegland if his outstanding production continues, or does he need to prove himself at a higher level first? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
