The main event for AAA Guerra de Titanes (Dec. 20, 2025) was changed due to injury, and the story turned out better with Rey Mysterio as the replacement when he embarrassed Dominik Mysterio in the ring.
The big match was supposed to be the return of the Lucha Bros to AAA, however, Penta recently suffered a shoulder injury. Rey Mysterio stepped up to team with Fenix against the reborn Los Gringos Locos 2.0 tandem of Dirty Dom and El Grande Americano.
The story of the match was all about Rey getting hands on his son, and the crowd was hot for it. Ever since Dom debuted in AAA, he has received a hero’s welcome. That changed once Rey was in the house. The cheers for Dom instantly turned to boos.
The match started with energetic mat work from Fenix and El Grande Americano. When Dom tagged in, Fenix tagged out to Rey. The Mysterios circled each other building tension for the first act of fisticuffs. Dom chickened out by stalling then tagging out without any physical engagement with his father.
The match progressed with Los Gringos Locos 2.0 isolating Fenix. After Grande did the work, Dom tagged in to pummel Fenix with punches. The action eventually led to a hot tag for Rey running wild on Dominik.
The story within the story was the 619. Dom avoided Rey’s first attempt at the maneuver. Dominik decided to honor his other “father” with the Three Amigos for Eddie Guerrero. Dom taunted the crowd on the third suplex, and Rey countered for a DDT. On Rey’s second attempt at the 619, Dom beat him to the punch for a Michinoku Driver.
For the match’s conclusion, Dominik called for the steel plate from Grande, who dug deep into his tights. Penta ran in to steal the steel. Fenix teed off for a rope-walking kick to Grande’s face. Penta cracked Dom with a loaded headbutt. This dream team worked in unison without skipping a beat. Rey dropkicked Dom into the ropes. Fenix leaped over the top for a dive onto Grande. Rey finally hit the 619 on Dom to great satisfaction from the crowd. Rey landed a slingshot splash to pin Dominik for victory. Dirty Dom was embarrassed in defeat.
And just like that, it looks like Los Gringos Locos 2.0 are no more. After the loss, Dominik put the blame on Grande and bailed.
Rey offered a handshake of respect. Grande accepted the legend’s gesture, but he walked out on the Lucha Bros. The babyface turn was put on ice, even though, the crowd really wanted it. AAA posted a split-screen on social media of Dom observing the handshake between Rey and Grande. He did not take it well.
This was a great match playing to the crowd. AAA orchestrated the flow for maximum pop on the finish. Everyone looked good in the ring. Fenix was in peak form. Grande delivered his mix of charisma and technical skills. Dominik played the punk role well. Rey hit the classics of his legend status. This match gave the people what they wanted.
