The Cleveland Browns, along with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are in a unique position with their bye week coming the week before the NFL trade deadline. For losing
teams like the Browns and Jets, it is a chance to get a jump on the market and, potentially, allow contending teams to get an extra week out of a player that should be on their bye.
For the Eagles and Bucs, both contenders, the whole organization gets to reset together all week before potentially making moves.
Cleveland rumors have flown since the team dealt away Joe Flacco and traded Greg Newsome II for Tyson Campbell. While the Browns roster lacks some of the top-end players they need to be competitive, there is talent that teams should be interested in, including a surprising name noted among the top players to be dealt at the trade deadline next Tuesday afternoon.
A week before the deadline, Cleveland safety Rayshawn Jenkins entered the rumor mill as a player the Browns are open to moving:
It is an interesting rumor, as Cleveland’s willingness to trade a player who lasted on the NFL free agent market until May and only signed a one-year deal is obvious. Jenkins has played fine in his role as the team’s safety, but he is not a “must keep” player. The real question is whether or not there are teams with interest in trading for Jenkins.
Given the Browns bye week, we are likely to hear a lot of rumors over the weekend. If teams are interested in adding players to help them in Week 9, a deal would likely need to be agreed upon by Wednesday of this week at the latest. Even veteran players take time to get adjusted to new systems, verbiage, teammates, and more.
