It’s pretty incredible how ugly things can turn over the course of seven days.
Just one week ago, Kentucky Basketball was coming off a thumping victory over No. 25 Vanderbilt after being victorious in a must-win scenario at South Carolina.
They had all of the momentum they needed to at least finish the season 1-1 and secure their spot for playing on Thursday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Instead, the Wildcats suffered beatdowns to at Texas A&M and at home to No. 5 Florida — now playing
in the 11:30 CT game to kick off the tournament in Nashville, TN.
Kentucky’s path to the weekend slate of the SEC Tournament will consist of LSU, Missouri, and Florida.
As if watching the Wildcats stumble through the season wasn’t discouraging enough, they are a combined 1-3 against those teams this season, and it took a Christian Laettner-type play from Malachi Moreno to beat LSU.
This year has been nothing short of a disaster, and there is little to no hope for anything to change.
They finish the regular season at No. 23 in the DRatings, No. 25 in the EvanMiya rankings and No. 26 in the Haslametrics rankings.
Meanwhile, for the women’s team, they bowed out of their SEC Tournament in a loss to runner-up South Carolina on Friday. In Kentucky’s defense, they were playing their fourth game in six days and it was the second matchup with the Gamecocks — a team that was plenty rested for their first matchup of the tournament.
They are currently being projected as a 5-seed ahead of the NCAA Tournament that begins next week.
