Stefon Diggs and Christian Barmore addressed the media on Friday for the first time since legal charges were brought upon both players this week.
Diggs, who is facing charges of felony strangulation or
suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery , began by apologizing for not speaking earlier in the week — as he typically holds media availability on Wednesday — before sticking to football questions.
“Obviously, it’s a different time, a very emotional time. I’ve been taken aback by some of the things that’s been going on,” Diggs said. “But I want to be here to say sorry, I wasn’t available for those couple of days. It’s a different kind of time. Dealing with everything, it’s definitely an open case, so I can’t even say anything about it.”
Throughout the week, Diggs was a full participant in New England’s three practices as he shared his focus remains on the regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins.
“Regarding football, I’m going to continue to be the guy I’ve been,” Diggs said. “Trying to finish the season strong. It’s a good team on the other side of the road. Going in with the right mindset, I’m going to keep the same mindset. I’ve been a leader on this team. I’ve been the same person this whole time. Don’t expect no changes from me.”
Barmore, who is facing domestic assault and battery charges, held a brief media availability that lasted just under 90 seconds.
When asked about his allegations or version of the events, the defensive lineman repeatedly offered the same response: “I’m focused on Miami. Playing football.”
Diggs will be due back in court Jan. 23 for an arraignment, while Barmore’s arraignment is currently scheduled for Feb. 3.
