We made the weekend. Let’s enjoy the start with some rumors.
Lead Rumor:
Roughly one month ago, rumors got around that there isn’t any creative ready for Drew McIntyre to make his return to WWE television. Just one week ago, we got a video from the man himself doing some training in a ring at Rusev’s school in Nashville.
Now, PW Insider is bringing word that he was spotted at WWE Headquarters recently. He was apparently there for two reasons: To take part in media for the company’s forthcoming microdramas and
to “meet with WWE officials.”
There’s no telling what exactly that means or what it will entail but his return has to be drawing closer, considering he’s been out dating all the way back to WrestleMania 42, where he lost an Unsanctioned Match to Jacob Fatu. Much of that time has been spent doing work in film but he’s clearly kept himself in shape in the meantime.
The WWE PLE schedule for the remainder of the year includes Money in the Bank, Crown Jewel (assuming it goes ahead), Survivor Series, and Wrestlepalooza. Plenty of opportunity for a story before we get to 2027.
Stay tuned.
Other rumors floating around
- Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that people in WWE were “very surprised” at The Rock’s wording in his tribute video to Pac, namely in regards to putting AEW over as being good for wrestling and helping make the industry what it is today.
- When Asuka and Iyo Sky shared a tear-filled hug in the ring at Backlash, and then a bunch of wrestlers paid tribute to her, it led to speculation she was done. Rumors suggested she is semi-retired and then she released a video saying a personal matter came up and she is still with WWE. In an update, she posted on social media in response to new rumors she’s said goodbye to the company that she “hasn’t left the group” and she “has not quit.”
- According to PW Insider, Shawn Spears is still with NXT and “assists with coaching talent” during his TV absence.
- AAA wrestlers will be featured in upcoming Topps trading card sets, Funko Pop lineups, and the next WWE 2K release in 2027, per WrestleVotes’ weekly radio show on Fightful Select.
- WWE filed a trademark on the term “Ultranueva,” which roughly translates to “very new”. There’s no word on what or who the term will be used for, but the filing language matches what they usually use when trademarking a wrestler name.
