Poland coach Jan Urban has given his view on Robert Lewandowski’s latest injury that has seen the striker sidelined for around four weeks.
Barcelona are said to be pretty angry with Lewandowski, for not coming off in the first half when he felt discomfort, and Urban has now shared his thoughts on the situation.
“For me, a muscle tear, if it happens, doesn’t let you run at high speed and it’s impossible to play with it. And all of us who are close to football know that. I don’t understand it,” he told
Catalunya Radio.
“Yes, it’s true that he felt something and we came to an agreement between the doctor, Robert and I that if he felt any discomfort, he would ask to be substituted. But he held out without any problems until the end of the match.”
Lewandowski was spotted with his thigh bandaged in the second half but Urban said he did not think the striker should not have been playing.
“No, I don’t have any feeling that he could be injured. He was in perfect condition and didn’t play against New Zealand because we decided to do so in order to give other players a chance,” he added.
“I thought maybe he had some scarring from the previous injury or that he might have a small tear or strain. But I was a player, and you see players who, when they suffer a muscle injury, stop and can’t play anymore.I’m sorry, but I don’t understand the injury.”
Lewandowski is the latest Barceona player to pick up an injury on international duty, with Gavi, Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo having previously sustained problems while with the Spain squad.
