After a busy Monday on and off the field, the New England Patriots returned to the practice field on Tuesday for their final official practice of this year’s training camp.
Here’s what went down on upper practice fields behind Gillette Stadium.
Setting

Conditions: Sunny, temperatures in the high 70s
The Patriots ended their summer in full pads yet again. The intensity was down, however, as things primarily focused on scout team work. After a slippery
down on the slow field on Monday, it was no surprise to see work transition back to the upper fields as well.

After exiting Monday’s practice early with an apparent right foot/ankle injury, running back TreVeyon Henderson was sidelined on Tuesday.
“We’re working through that situation now. He’s probably not going to be out there at practice today, but we’ll see how that goes,“ Eliot Wolf said prior to practice.
In the backfield, New England did see Lan Larison return in a red non-contact as did Jam Miller, although the rookie did not participate in team drills. Cory Durden and Mehki Butler also returned in the trenches.
Cornerback Christian Gonzalez was then a full participant again after returning on Monday.
Takeaways
Andy ends strong: It was a strong end to the summer for kicker Andy Borregales, who was working with new punter/holder Matt Haack. In a live field goal setting, Borregales connected on all five of his field goal attempts working on the skinny goal posts.
Ending the day with a one-minute drive, Borregales knocked through a 54-yard field goal — again on the skinny posts — to cap off the drill.
“He’s done a great job through camp. He continues to progress and there’s always ebbs and flows of being a kicker and that’s why you kick it,” special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer said.
“You go through some adversity at times and you got to grow from that and hopefully it’s in the preseason, hopefully it’s in in practice. So, when we get to the regular season, we get the rest of that out of the way and we can hit the ground running.”
Jaylen’s (short) debut: Newly acquired safety Jaylen Reed was in the facility Tuesday morning and made his way onto the practice field wearing No. 26. Reed participated in early warmups and stretch before departing to the practice bubble with a member of the staff.
“[His skill set] is still to be seen,” defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr said. “Jaylen just got here, see what his his skill set is and work with him. I know he’s come here ready to work.”
Quick Q: Seventh-round pass rusher Quintayvious Hutchins has started stacking days late in camp. Hutchins found himself in the backfield again with the second defense on Tuesday as he worked a stunt nicely to get home up the middle.
Hutchins has repped as the top edge rusher opposite of Gabe Jacas with the second unit behind Elijah Ponder and Dre’Mont Jones. The rookie brings a differing skillset to that room with his speed and has extensive special teams ability from his time at Boston College.
Other notes:
- The Patriots’ top passing attack struck several big plays in 7-on-7s. That included Drake Maye connecting with Efton Chism III, Mack Hollins, and Lan Larison down the field.
- Larison and Hassan Haskins repped as the top backups to Rhamondre Stevenson with Henderson sidelined.
- Greg Van Roten continues to work in at all three interior spots with the top offense. He did have two low snaps at center.
- Top punt block team: Hassan Haskins, Namdi Obiazor, Elijah Ponder, Gabe Jacas, Chad Muma, Reggie Gilliam, and Dell Pettus (personal protector).

As training camp ends, the work doesn’t stop for the Patriots. The team will hold a closed walkthrough on Wednesday before traveling to Cleveland for their preseason finale. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
