It was a decently eventful week of recruiting in the Big Ten with some concrete updates and other news that could materialize into something more substantial later.
Let’s get into the week that was:
Indiana lands a commitment
Indiana landed a commitment from Trevor Manhertz, a 4-star small forward in the class of 2027 out of Christ School in Cary, North Carolina. Interestingly, Manhertz simultaneously announced his intention to reclassify to the class of 2026, giving Indiana a 3-man recruiting class in Darian DeVries’ first recruiting cycle as the Hoosiers’ head coach.
DeVries has prioritized wings as Indiana’s head coach, landing multiple as transfers last offseason with two in his first recruiting class between Manhertz and fellow 4-star Vaughn Karvala.
Nebraska hosts a visitor
Mathias Alessanco, a 3-star small forward in the class of 2026 out of Overtime Elite, visited Nebraska for the Huskers’ game against Illinois on Sunday.
Lincoln Cosby reclassifies to 2026
Lincoln Cosby, a 4-star small forward in the class of 2027, announced his intention to reclassify into the 2026 class through his agency. He holds offers from Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon among others, per On3/Rivals.
Former UCLA guard eyeing a return to college basketball
Amari Bailey, who was a freshman on UCLA’s excellent 31-6 team in 2022-23 before being selected with the 41st overall pick in that year’s NBA Draft, is eyeing a return to college basketball.
It’d send shockwaves through the sport if Bailey, who’s played NBA minutes with the Charlotte Hornets, is granted eligibility. This doesn’t necessarily mean he’d return to UCLA, but it’s worth noting with the Bruins in the conference now despite Bailey having been a member of the program during its time in the Pac-12.
